Intoduction
There is something eerie about SCUBA diving. Although in a group, the lack
of background noise makes it like you are alone in a strange and wonderful world
filled with strange creatures (and that is just the divers). In clear waters, seeing
the marine life and in some cases interacting with them in their environment is
an experience to treasure. Occasionally above your head is the sound of a boat's
propeller and then the splashing as people are jumping into the water. Showls of
little fish seem to dart to and fro the light from the surface making them sparkle
when they change direction.
Scuba diving may not be for everyone, however do try, often for free, a trial in
a swimming pool. If you find that you do not feel restricted and claustrophobic,
try a beginners course.
Jacques-Yves Cousteau and Emile Gagnan invented the aqualung in 1943 (you can read
a fastinating account of Jacques-Yves Cousteau life at
divernet ) and thus SCUBA diving began.
