Belfry Tower

One of the many canals in BrugesThe 83 metre belfry tower looks down onto the market square, originally built in 1240 but was destroyed by fire in 1280. Beneath the tower is the cloth hall in which Flemish cloth from other cities would have been sold to the rest of the world. You can pay to climb the 366 steps if you wish.
In the centre of the Market stands the statue of Jan Breydel and Pieter de Coninck
